YU812 was a lightweight robot built by Team Whyachi which competed in Season 4.0 and Season 5.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.
It was a four-wheel drive, downscaled version of the team's previous cage spinner robots, Son of Whyachi and Whyachi. Each of its meat tenderizer hammers weighed 2lbs, with the overall weapon making up 25lbs, almost half of the robot's total weight. This weapon could spin up in three seconds thanks to being driven by a large Magmotor ran at 38V.[1]
YU812's frame was manufactured from a mix of 1/8" thick aluminum and 1/16" titanium, and the entire robot was built in three weeks according to Team Whyachi.[1]
However, it had little success, winning only one battle. YU812 returned for the NPC Charity Open, where it picked up three additional wins.

Outside BattleBots[]
Team Whyachi also competed with YU812 outside of BattleBots, where it placed first in the June 2002 MechWars Robotic Combat event's lightweight division.[2]
It fought at the Robot Club Bar & Grille, owned by Team Toad, winning one of the December events. YU812 also competed at Steel Conflict II in February 2003.

YU812 vs. Scrap Daddy Surplus YU812 moved on and now faced Scrap Daddy Surplus. During the match, Scrap Daddy swung its steel ball into YU812's spinner to try and disable it, but only damaged its own weapon in the process. Scrap Daddy Surplus backed off and tried again, but this time it was ripped off and tossed away. Scrap Daddy Surplus rammed YU812, causing a big impact between the two robots. As a result, YU812's drive was struggling but its weapon was still fully functional. YU812 appeared to twitch forwards, but this was not deemed sufficient mobility. However, Scrap Daddy Surplus was also only able to drive in circles, having lost drive to one of its wheels. The fight therefore went to the judges as a simultaneous knockout was declared. The judges controversially scored Scrap Daddy Surplus heavily in both the Aggression and Strategy categories, while YU812 took the Damage category. As such, Scrap Daddy Surplus was declared the winner on a 23-22 decision, which was heavily booed by the live audience. |
