Pokey was a middleweight robot which competed in the final three seasons of BattleBots. It was a sliver four-wheeled box-shaped robot armed with a lifting arm. It performed decently in competition, winning one battle at every season it participated.
It also competed in the final two tournaments of the US Robot Wars, where it had a rear pneumatic spike as well the lifting arm.
The 1995 version was built by Curt Meyers, who would later build built Jaws of Death, Counter Revolution, and Kill-O-Amp, and Dallas Goecker, the future builder of Sallad, for the 1995 UIUC Engineering Open House Wasteland Competition as a bot called Bounty. Later, Meyers and Amy Sun would take the bot, renamed Pokey, to the final two tournaments of US Robot Wars and retire it after that. Finally, Goecker would revive the bot for the final three seasons of Battlebots.
Pokey first went against Mongus. Pokey drove Mongus all over the place, as it helplessly turned itself over and over like a chicken on a roisserie, and pounded the floor with its flailing "legs." It managed to hook onto Pokey. Pokey then ran Mongus up against the spikes and pushed it a few times. The Mongus seemed almost totally unable to controllably move itself, and Pokey won 29-16.
Pokey's next opponent was CU-Denver Demagogue. Pokey got under Demagogue and lifted it up, but couldn't do much with it then. Demagogue was able to push Pokey pretty well, but it kept getting lifted. Eventually, Demagogue managed to push Pokey up against the wall and pin it. More pushing followed, and Demagogue pinned Pokey again as time ran out. Pokey lost as 21-24 decision and was eliminated.
