Super Megabyte was a superheavyweight built by the Robotic Death Company which competed at the 2004 BattleBots-sanctioned NPC Charity Open. It was essentially a slightly scaled-up version of the team's heavyweight shell spinner Megabyte, distinguished by having a black and silver shell. Super Megabyte enjoyed limited success in the main superheavyweight division, picking up one victory against Steel Piranha before being eliminated via the loser's bracket. However, it would win the end-of-event multiclass Rumble, defeating its heavyweight counterpart in the process.

Following the NPC Charity Open, Super Megabyte competed at the first two RFL Championships, finishing the 2005 edition as superheavyweight runner-up. During the same year, it also fought in the 340lb tournament at RoboGames, winning the Gold medal upon defeating ShovelHead in the final.[1]

Robot History[]

2004 NPC Charity Open[]

After receiving a bye in round one, Super Megabyte went up against Steel Piranha. Unfortunately, Super Megabyte's spinning dome was not moving and was forced to use pushing power as its primary weapon. Luckily, Steel Piranha was having driving issues and Super Megabyte pushed it against the corner of the arena before the time ran out. Super Megabyte won on a judges' decision and advanced to the winner's quarterfinals, where it faced Mer Madd.

In the match, Super Megabyte was hitting Mer Madd multiple times. After this, Mer Madd flipped Super Megabyte on its back against the corner of the BattleBox and started pushing it around. Soon after, Mer Madd stopped pushing Super Megabyte and it was now being counted out. Mer Madd won by KO and Super Megabyte was now in the loser's bracket, where it faced Steel Reign.

Before the match began, Team XD added an attachment on the top rear of Steel Reign in order to stop Super Megabyte. In the match, Super Megabyte started spinning and Steel Reign went straight at the full-body spinner, pushing it against the arena wall with its added attachment. Super Megabyte was now under the pulverizer and ran away from Steel Reign. Steel Reign got its attachment on Super Megabyte and Super Megabyte started ripping it apart. As Super Megabyte was still spinning, Steel Reign slammed into Super Megabyte from the rear and more pieces were coming off of Steel Reign's attachment. Steel Reign reversed into Super Megabyte and both robots bounced off each other. For the majority of the match, Steel Reign kept charging at Super Megabyte from the rear and Super Megabyte eventually stopped spinning before the time ran out. Despite the amount of damage that Super Megabyte caused to Steel Reign, the judge's were in favor of Steel Reign and Super Megabyte was eliminated from the tournament.

Super Megabyte Rumble 2

Super Megabyte Rumble

Super Megabyte takes a ram from Mer Madd in what proved to be the killing blow.

Super Megabyte also participated in a special rumble at the end of the tournament. When the match began, Super Megabyte stayed in a corner for a bit as it spun up before moving into a square and getting rammed into by Mer Madd, ripping off part of its wedge and hitting the wall as it was sent back. Super Megabyte tried to move to an open area so it could spin back up, but Mer Madd approached Super Megabyte and pushed it towards the wall. This attack was interrupted by Black Knight, which got under and lifted Mer Madd, allowing Super Megabyte to escape. Super Megabyte then ran into Russell's Paradigm and got stuck in its body momentarily. Super Megabyte eventually pushed out of it and tried to spin back up, but it couldn't for whatever reason. Super Megabyte stayed in the corner, doing whatever it could to spin back up before finally doing so off-camera. Super Megabyte started its resurgence by striking HazMatXD (Steel Reign's lightweight teammate) and sending it spinning across the box, immobilizing it. Then, after Mer Madd tipped over Russell's Paradigm by slamming it into the wall, Super Megabyte went in and destroyed the drill and arm on it. After Mer Madd rammed into and disabled the shell of Super Megabyte's heavyweight counterpart, Megabyte, Super Megabyte moved towards it while it was toying with a flipped Black Knight, first giving a tap to the wedge and then ramming into and striking a charging Mer Madd on the rear end, sending both bots into opposite directions. The fight was eventually brought down to the two bots after Mer Madd slammed a non-spinning Megabyte into the wall, knocking it out of commission. Super Megabyte delivered more blows to the rear end of Mer Madd, one of which knocking a large piece out of the interior of it. Super Megabyte then took two more wedge-first rams from Mer Madd, the last of which fully immobilizing Mer Madd. With every single robot in the rumble down for the count, Super Megabyte was declared the winner of the rumble.
