El Cholo was a middleweight robot built by the Ransom Everglades Robotics team, which competed in BattleBots IQ 2011.

It was a six-wheeled robot armed with a large drum spinner at the front, utilizing parts from the team's 2009 High School Championship rambot SpiderPig.[1] El Cholo had a strong, rectangular frame which it could use to push robots as well as cause damage with its drum. Its weapon was powered by twin Magmotors and was estimated to spin at 4000-6000rpm according to Will Bales.[2]

El Cholo vs. Choo-Choo Bacca

El Cholo vs Choo-Choo Bacca 2011 IQ

El Cholo pushes Choo-Choo Bacca into the blue square.

El Cholo took on a shell spinner named Choo-Choo Bacca, and led with its sturdy frame. After slowing Choo-Choo Bacca's shell, El Cholo turned to strike its opponent with the drum, popping it into the air. El Cholo delivered another hit as Choo-Choo Bacca was slow to give chase, before El Cholo threw its opponent into the wall of the arena.

El Cholo tosses Choo-Choo Bacca into the wall, almost flipping it.

El Cholo pushed with its flat back, and Choo-Choo Bacca appeared immobile. However, El Cholo was also not moving as the team claimed to be stuck with its wheels off the floor.[4] The match was paused as El Cholo was freed in accordance with the rules, and upon resuming, El Cholo proved its mobility. Choo-Choo Bacca remained immobile, and their team ultimately tapped out.

El Cholo vs. Diesel

El Cholo turns to face Diesel.

El Cholo's next fight came against Diesel. Eager to avoid its opponent's spinning weapon, El Cholo again led with its rear in an attempt to tank the initial hit. However, El Cholo evaded Diesel and opted to go weapon-to-weapon instead. Following a few buffeting shots, El Cholo was able to get the better of the exchanges and eventually disabled the drive of Diesel, taking the win by knockout.

El Cholo incapacitates Fluffy DeLarge.

In the Collegiate final, El Cholo took on Ransom Everglades' other middleweight entry, Fluffy DeLarge. Both robots circled in the opening seconds and Fluffy DeLarge got the first meaningful hit of the battle, overturning El Cholo. This appeared to be enough, however, as El Cholo was knocked out cold. Will Bales celebrated as Fluffy DeLarge took the High School title.
