The Butcher was a superheavyweight robot built by Inertia Labs which competed in Season 5.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.

It was a tall, uniquely-shaped robot with a similarly unique primary weapon - a pneumatically-powered titanium spinning disc. A pneumatic system consisting of two 5lb CO2 tanks, a 5 gallon low pressure tank, CO2 regulators and a 150hp air motor would force The Butcher's weapon to slice in a clockwise motion. It was powered by a spike relay, allowing short but powerful bursts, contrary to traditional horizontal spinners which would spin consistently. The Butcher's drive system consisted of two 3" Magmotors with chains driving each of its 8" wheels. Its batteries and 24v speed controllers were cooled internally by two Rotron fans.

The Butcher lost its second preliminary fight in Season 5.0, and as such, did not receive a televised competitive battle. However, it would ultimately make a cameo in Episode 12 of the season in a demonstration match against Bil Dwyer and Evil Cheese Wedge.

Outside BattleBots

The Butcher competed after BattleBots in a slightly upgraded form and renamed Hack Job. Hack Job was registered for ROBOlympics in March 2004, interestingly featuring a lifter as a secondary weapon, but ended up not competing for unknown reasons.

Robot History

Season 5.0
The Butcher vs. Janus The Butcher's first preliminary bout was against Janus. In this fight, The Butcher drove out, and the two circled for a short time. The Butcher pivoted quickly, and pushed Janus from the side easily. Janus, having trouble steering, managed to get The Butcher on its lifter but was only able to lift it up, not tip it over. The Butcher pinned Janus to the wall and Janus' driver immediately tapped out. The Butcher was unable to spin its weapon in this fight due to a loose wire.
The Butcher vs. Super Nova This victory put The Butcher into the next round where it fought Super Nova, but it lost the fight by TKO.
The Butcher vs. Evil Cheese Wedge (Exhibition) The Butcher carves into Evil Cheese Wedge. The Butcher destroys Evil Cheese Wedge. Evil Cheese Wedge, destroyed by The Butcher. The Butcher returned for a televised exhibition match against Evil Cheese Wedge in Episode 12. In this match, The Butcher immediately ripped a wheel away. The Butcher scraped along the side of Evil Cheese Wedge and its blade caught wires hanging out of the broken bot, causing Evil Cheese Wedge to be dragged along the floor. Eventually, Evil Cheese Wedge lost its other wheel and was deshelled by The Butcher's weapon. Evil Cheese Wedge was mercifully counted out.
