Unrelated to the similarly named robot from Comedy Central BattleBots called Bulldog.

Bull Dog was a heavyweight robot built by Ian Watts of Team Bigger Brother which applied for both ABC seasons of BattleBots.

Built in April 2015, Bull Dog's main weapon was a rear-hinged flipper powered by a large pneumatic ram. Bull Dog was covered in fur to suit its look and was therefore flammable, similar to Robot Wars fan favorite Diotoir. Its shape was similar to that of the UK heavyweight Eruption, which was dominant on the live circuit at the time and would later become a champion. However, it was not chosen to compete in the main competition, instead being a reserve and only fighting in a single three-way rumble as a result, which it lost.

Ian Watts previously built Bigger Brother and Little Sister, entering both into the Comedy Central era of Comedy Central BattleBots. He also entered Or Te into Series 8 of Robot Wars, built to be a modernized version of the classic machine, though it suffered a premature exit in its opening melee. He then entered Series 10 with The Swarm, not to be confused by the BattleBots entry of the same name.

Teammate John Frizell did not previously compete on the show, but had participated and represented Canada in Robot Wars with heavyweights Terror Turtle and The Kegs, as well as middleweight Steel Sandwich.

Bull Dog applied to compete in World Championship II, but it was ultimately rejected as confirmed by John Frizell.[1] However, the team did compete that season with Creepy Crawlies, but was destroyed in its entry rumble at the hands of Son of Whyachi. Ian Watts later entered multibot The Four Horsemen into World Championship III and IV. Following Bull Dog's 2016 season rejection, it was deconstructed in Ian Watts' garage and its Bosch drive motors were reused in Or Te for future live events.[2]

Remaining in the team's possession for six more years, Bull Dog was adopted by UK live event competitor Theo Beech in September 2022 having been a static display during the RoboNerd event in Wolverhampton, England. Picked up with the intention of restoring it to working condition, it is as yet unknown whether Bull Dog will undergo a new theme or name for future competitions.[3]

Bull Dog vs. Stinger vs. Splatter (Exhibition)

Despite not competing in the main competition, Bull Dog participated in a three-robot rumble with Splatter and Stinger.

Not much is known about this fight as it went untelevised, though clips were aired as part of a YouTube video for TESTED.[4] Stinger lit Bull Dog on fire with its flamethrower and pushed it into Splatter, who then pushed it into the killsaws. Bull Dog lost overall to Stinger.

Bull Dog was due to compete in a nine bot rumble at the end of the tournament, but due to time restraints in filming, the rumble was unable to take place.

  • Bull Dog was one of very few reboot era BattleBots competitors to use Ni-Cd (nickel–cadmium) batteries in its construction, as opposed to the more preferred LiPo (lithium polymer) batteries often seen in modern heavyweights.
