Maximus was a superheavyweight robot by Team Gladiator which competed in Season 3.0, Season 4.0, and Season 5.0 of Comedy Central BattleBots.

It was a four-wheel drive robot, fitted with a large hinged red scoop with two small spikes on each side. Maximus was one of the fastest robots in the competition and often used its superior drive power to its advantage. Despite an early exit in its debut competition, Maximus had a decent career in BattleBots, having two televised preliminary fights in Season 4.0 and reaching the semi-finals of Season 5.0.

In 2004, Blue Max became the first ever opponent for future Giant Nut winner Tombstone.[1]

Robot History[]

Season 3.0[]

Maximus vs. Hammertime

Maximus' first and only match in Season 3.0 was against Hammertime. Little is known about the fight, but Hammertime won the fight on a 31-14 judges' decision and Maximus was eliminated from the tournament.

Season 4.0[]

Maximus vs. Marauder

Returning for Season 4.0, Maximus first faced Marauder. Maximus began with a quick charge but hit the wall of the BattleBox. Then, they started hitting each other like crazy. Marauder occasionally got underneath Maximus, but could not push it around with much success. Both robots tended to hit the wall almost as often as they hit each other. Maximus rammed Marauder into the spikestrip near the side of the exit ramp, and knocked it right over it. Marauder flipped Maximus over once, but it did not affect the invertible bot. As the fight wore on, it became evident that Maximus' wedge had taken serious damage and Marauder was getting its lifter underneath Maximus, pushing it around. Marauder's lifting spike impaled itself into the seam of the floor by the exit ramp, and Marauder was stuck. However, it was not counted out and Maximus won the fight on a 27-18 judges' decision.

Now in the TV rounds, Maximus met Pharmapac. Both robots charged each other in the center of the BattleBox, but missed one another. Pharmapac attacked Maximus but could not get the lifting arm into play. Maximus tricked Pharmapac into driving over the killsaws before it got its lifting arm under Maximus, but could not flip it over. Maximus' rear tires remained on the floor and Maximus drove away. Pharmapac chased after Maximus and it got its arm under it again, but could not capitalize. Pharmapac lifted again, but Maximus landed right side up and escaped. Maximus then drove into Pharmapac and managed to bend the corner of its opponent's scoop. The two robots collided but, both robots were pushing each other and Maximus pushed Pharmapac against the arena wall. After Pharmapac tried to lift Maximus, its arm became bent as it tried to retract. As a result, Pharmapac's arm was no longer flush with the floor, and could not get under Maximus. Maximus continued pushing Pharmapac around the BattleBox and tried to take it to the killsaws again. Maximus managed to get under Pharmapac once more and slammed backwards into the arena wall with Pharmapac on top of Team Gladiator's bot. After more pushing and shoving from both robots, time eventually ran out. Maximus won the fight on a close 23-22 judges' decision and advanced to the Round of 32.

Maximus vs. Toro

In the Round of 32, Maximus faced Inertia Labs and Toro. Toro tried to flip Maximus from behind, but couldn't do it in time. Maximus is zipping around the BattleBox and Toro tried another flip on Maximus, but Maximus has already driven away. Both robots later got caught on the killsaws. Toro gets under Maximus again and Toro finally flips Maximus. Toro pushes Maximus against the arena wall and gives Maximus another flip, this time putting Maximus on it's back. Maximus drives directly underneath the pulverizer on the opposite side of the BattleBox, the pulverizer drops and leaves a big dent in the armor of Maximus. Toro comes over and flips Maximus again. After Maximus drives away, it turns around and charges at Toro. Toro drives up the wedge of Maximus and is flipped over. Toro quickly self-rights and flips Maximus immediately. Toro backs up and pushes Maximus over the killsaws. Maximus tries to gain position, but Toro gets under Maximus' side again and flips it onto its back again. Maximus drives up the entrance ramp and then back onto the floor. Toro flips Maximus back over and holds it against the wall for a couple seconds. Toro follows and gets its flipping arm caught under the seam of the ramp, but escapes. Maximus pushes Toro back and Toro flips Maximus again. Maximus takes a shot from the killsaws, producing showers of sparks in the process, and Toro flips Maximus onto the entrance ramp again. Maximus tries to get free and Toro gets its flipping arm caught under the ramp again. Maximus frees Toro once more and with only ten seconds left, Toro pushed Maximus against the spikestrip. Toro won the fight on a 32-13 judges' decision and Maximus was eliminated from the tournament again.

Superheavyweight Royal Rumble

Maximus also participated the Superheavyweight Royal Rumble at the end of the tournament. It's unknown how well it performed, but it lost overall to The Judge.

Season 5.0[]

Maximus vs. Electric Lunch

Due to previously competing in Season 4.0, Maximus was allowed to skip the preliminary rounds of Season 5.0, where it faced Season 3.0 quarterfinalist Electric Lunch. After Maximus shoved Electric Lunch against the arena wall at one point, Electric Lunch eventually stopped moving and was counted out. Maximus won the fight by KO and advanced to the Round of 16, where it faced Season 2.0 runner-up Atomic Wedgie.

Both robots went straight at each other and Maximus slammed Atomic Wedgie against the arena wall, flipping it onto its back. Maximus then slammed Atomic Wedgie against the spikestrip right near the pulverizer. Maximus pushed Atomic Wedgie toward the screws and Maximus gets caught on the killsaws, lifting the front wedge from the impact. Atomic Wedgie got its spinning disc on the rear of Maximus for a brief moment and Maximus pushed Atomic Wedgie against the spikestrip again. After this, Maximus drove itself on the killsaws and gets tossed onto its back. Atomic Wedgie was having control problems as the left track stopped moving. Atomic Wedgie then managed to tear into one of Maximus' wheels and Maximus drove itself on the killsaws again. Atomic Wedgie was only moving in circles and Maximus pushed Atomic Wedgie against the base of the screws. Maximus moved to the center of the BattleBox and began spinning victoriously. Atomic Wedgie was now being counted out and Maximus pushed Atomic Wedgie onto the screws before the countdown was finished. Maximus won the fight by KO at 2:26 and advanced to the superheavyweight quarter-finals, where it faced IceBerg.

Maximus vs. IceBerg

The two robots collided in the center of the BattleBox early on. IceBerg pressed on and ended up driving up Maximus' wedge momentarily. IceBerg drove away and Maximus charged straight at IceBerg, but missed. IceBerg rammed into Maximus' side, bouncing Maximus on top of IceBerg's plow. IceBerg shoved Maximus against the arena wall, pinning it for the allowed time, eventually releasing its opponent. IceBerg charged straight at the spikestrip and its plow became loose. IceBerg then hit Maximus from the side and the impact caused the plow to come off completely. Both robots drove around with Maximus keen to get its front under Iceberg to control the match. Maximus eventually did just that and started pushing IceBerg into the wall, threatening to damage its rear wheel. IceBerg ran into Maximus several times, but could not cause any meaningful damage. Maximus then got underneath IceBerg and began controlling it again. After this, IceBerg was now experiencing driving issues. Maximus charged straight at its opponent and slammed it against the wall. Maximus was now pinning IceBerg against the spikestrip, but released it shortly after. Following brief encounter with the BattleBox hazards, one of IceBerg's wheels had locked up. IceBerg was counted out, and Maximus won the fight by knockout after 2:39 and advanced to the superheavyweight semi-finals, where it faced Vladiator.

In the final four, both robots began by pushing each other around the BattleBox, and Maximus pushed Vladiator against the spikestrip. Shortly after this, Vladiator got its flipping wedge under the front left wheel of Maximus and flipped it onto its back. The upturned Maximus drove straight at Vladiator and it flipped Maximus again. Maximus then charged straight at the rear of Vladiator and almost flipped it onto its side. Maximus pinned Vladiator against the spikestrip before the time ran out. Vladiator won the fight on a close 23-22 judges' decision and Maximus was eliminated from the tournament once again.

Maximus could not compete in the Superheavyweight Royal Rumble due to an incident with Nightmare in the Heavyweight Consolation Rumble.
