Alpha Raptor was a lightweight robot built by Team Raptor which competed in all five seasons of Comedy Central BattleBots.

It began its life as a revised version of the team's previous lightweight, W.L.O.W., armored in white PVC and had a lifting arm for weaponry. Alpha Raptor was very successful, reaching the lightweight finals in its debut year before getting destroyed by Backlash.

Alpha Raptor received upgrades ahead of Season 2.0 and was renamed Beta Raptor. Looking mostly the same but upgrading the armor from PVC to a sort of polycarbonate. Beta Raptor was similarly successful, reaching the semi-finals before being knocked out by the destructive Ziggo.

For Season 3.0 and beyond, Beta Raptor took on the name Gamma Raptor. This version had a claw on top of the lifting arm to aid in self-righting, the top armor was changed to steel, and it was painted orange. Gamma Raptor matched the success of its predecessor, reaching the lightweight finals in Season 3.0 and despite a premature exit to The Big B in the following season, it made the semi-finals once more in Season 5.0.

The robot also formed part of the middleweight entry Pack Raptors, which were essentially two identical Gamma Raptor builds. The robots remained in Chuck Pitzer's ownership following the end of Comedy Central BattleBots, though one was sold to Pory Nog in 2022.[1]

Outside BattleBots[]

Backlash vs Gamma Raptor Steel Conflict

Backlash lunges at Gamma Raptor during combat at Steel Conflict.

Gamma Raptor competed at BashBots 3 in October of 2001. It was very successful in this event as it took home 1st place, getting revenge on Backlash twice. It then would compete at BashBots 4 in 2002, where it once again took 1st place.

Its next event was Steel Conflict 2 in February 2003, Gamma Raptor was again renamed, this time to Alien Raptor. It did good at this event, winning four fights but losing to X-30 and Pig Sticker.

Following this, the robot retired from competition.

Season 1.0[]

Alpha Raptor vs. Cereal Box Killer

AlphaRaptorvsCBKiller sf00

Alpha Raptor lifts Cereal Box Killer against the spikestrip.

Alpha Raptor's debut came against Cereal Box Killer. Immediately, Alpha Raptor pushed Cereal Box Killer against the spikestrip and flipped it over. Cereal Box Killer was unable to escape and was counted out shortly after. Alpha Raptor won the fight by KO and advanced to the Round of 16.

Alpha Raptor vs. Dr. Inferno Jr.

AlphaRaptorvsDrInferno sf00

Both robots are sent flying from the killsaws.

In the Round of 16, Alpha Raptor took on Dr Inferno Jr. and Jason Bardis. Both robots went straight at each other and Alpha Raptor raised its arm immediately. For most of the match, Dr. Inferno Jr. pushed Alpha Raptor around the BattleBox, losing mobility from its shredding tires along the way. After this, Dr. Inferno Jr. pushes Alpha Raptor onto the killsaws, which sent it and Dr. Inferno Jr. flying across the BattleBox. Dr. Inferno Jr. lost almost all its mobility from this hit and Alpha Raptor attempts to lift it. Alpha Raptor won the fight on a 8-1 judges' decision.

Alpha Raptor vs. Tentoumushi

AlphaRaptorvsTentoumushi sf00

Alpha Raptor lifts Tentoumushi against the spikestrip.

Alpha Raptor moved on to the lightweight quarter-finals, where it faced Tentoumushi. Both robots drove at one another before Alpha Raptor drove itself into the Hellraisers. Tentoumushi attempted to smother Alpha Raptor, but it escaped. Alpha Raptor then got underneath the front of Tentoumushi and pushed it against the spikestrip, which removed both antennae on top of Tentoumushi. Both robots were moving around the BattleBox and Tentoumushi smothered Alpha Raptor once again. Tentoumushi moved Alpha Raptor towards the killsaws, but Tentoumushi got its shell caught on the blade and took damage instead. Alpha Raptor escaped, shoving Tentoumushi onto the killsaws and later, the spikestrip. Chuck Pitzer's bot lifted Tentoumushi against the arena wall as time ran out. Alpha Raptor won the fight on a 7-2 judges' decision.

Alpha Raptor vs. Mouser Mecha-Catbot

MouservsAlphaRaptor sf00

Alpha Raptor takes Mouser onto the killsaws.

Alpha Raptor continued on to the lightweight semi-finals, where it faced Mouser Mecha-Catbot. At the beginning, Alpha Raptor went straight at the hellraisers and Mouser slowly moved out of its square. Mouser was lifted by Alpha Raptor and was later tossed by the killsaws. Alpha Raptor drives over Mouser and then Alpha Raptor lifted Mouser again. As Alpha Raptor was lifting Mouser again, Alpha Raptor tried pushing Mouser onto the killsaws, but couldn't. Mouser escapes and tried to flip Alpha Raptor soon after, before going straight on the killsaws again. After Alpha Raptor got caught on the killsaws, both robots were only nudging each other. Mouser was lifted by Alpha Raptor again and Mouser drove itself on the killsaws again. Mouser stopped moving after this impact, and Alpha Raptor tried to lift Mouser again. Mouser was being counted out, but the time ran out before the count was finished and the match went to the judges. Alpha Raptor won the fight on a 8-1 judges' decision and advanced to the lightweight finals.

Alpha Raptor vs. Backlash

Backlash alpharaptor1

Backlash destroys Alpha Raptor.

In the lightweight title decider, Alpha Raptor took on Jim Smentowski and Backlash. The fight started and Alpha Raptor was having drive problems, as it could barely move around its side of the BattleBox, but successfully evaded Backlash's attacks for several moments, even positioning itself on the other side of the killsaws, trying to get Backlash to follow, but got hit by them in the process. Backlash patiently drove around the saws to get at Alpha Raptor, and managed to hit the side, pinning the armor into the drive wheels and sending Alpha Raptor into the side of the BattleBox, by the spikes. Since Alpha Raptor's other drive train wasn't working properly, Backlash came in for the kill, smashing into the back, plastic side of Alpha Raptor, sending pieces of white plastic PVC all over the BattleBox. Backlash moved away to see if Alpha Raptor could move, but didn't. Backlash came in for the kill again, this time smashing into the back of Alpha Raptor so hard that the electronics were destroyed, sending the battery packs flying. Backlash came around to try to get Alpha Raptor away from the wall, and managed to hit it from the side hard enough to send it flying a short distance. At this point, it was obvious that Alpha Raptor was out, and Backlash had won the fight, and along with that, the championship. This meant that Alpha Raptor was declared the runner-up.

Season 2.0[]

Beta Raptor vs. Grunion

BetaRaptorvsGrunion

Beta Raptor lifts Grunion.

After receiving a bye, Beta Raptor eventually fought Grunion. Beta Raptor started charging straight at Grunion and started pushing it around. Grunion was unable to spin its wheels due to drive train slippage. Beta Raptor then takes advantage and flips Grunion. Grunion was then counted out and Beta Raptor won the fight by KO.

Beta Raptor vs. HammerHead

Beta Raptor's next opponent was HammerHead. Both robots charged straight at each other and HammerHead suddenly stopped moving after the impact as its killswitch had moved to "off" on impact. HammerHead was counted out and Beta Raptor took the win.

Beta Raptor vs. The Crusher

This win put Beta Raptor to the quarter-finals, where it faced The Crusher. In the beginning, The Crusher pushed Beta Raptor around and as Chuck Pitzer's bot tried getting underneath its opponent. The Crusher then slammed Beta Raptor into the arena wall. One charge from Beta Raptor got The Crusher underneath the pulverizer, but was able to escape. Beta Raptor then lifted The Crusher and held it momentarily before flipping it over completely. The Crusher drove into the arena spikestrip and became stuck, eventually freed by its opponent. Both robots were mobile at the end of the fight, and Beta Raptor won the fight on a 30-15 judges' decision.

Beta Raptor vs. Ziggo

Ziggo sends Beta Raptor flying.

Beta Raptor was now in the semi-finals, where it faced Ziggo. Before facing Ziggo, Team Raptor added Styrofoam on the front of Beta Raptor. At the beginning of the match, Beta Raptor charged at Ziggo as it tried to spin up to speed. Ziggo evaded and started hitting Beta Raptor while both robots were near the killsaws. Beta Raptor bumped into the killsaws, however, which disabled the left side of its drive. Due to this, it became caught on the killsaws for a few seconds until Ziggo hits Beta Raptor, sending it flying across the BattleBox. From this point onward, Beta Raptor could only drive around in circles. Ziggo came back for one more attack, but also got caught on the killsaws and its shell stopped spinning as a result. A pushing match ensued as neither robot was at full strength, trying to position each other under the pulverizer. Eventually, Beta Raptor was unable to move as it had become high centered. It was counted out and Ziggo won the fight by knockout.

Lightweight Royal Rumble

Beta Raptor also participated the Lightweight Royal Rumble at the end of the tournament, but lost out overall to HammerHead.

Season 3.0[]

Gamma Raptor vs SnowFlake

Snowflakevsgammaraptor sf01

Gamma Raptor flips SnowFlake.

Due to its seeding, Gamma Raptor was allowed to skip the preliminary rounds of Season 3.0, where it faced SnowFlake. SnowFlake went straight at Gamma Raptor, but Gamma Raptor got underneath and overturned SnowFlake with its forks. This continued throughout the entire fight. At one point, SnowFlake got caught under the pulverizer and took two hammer blows. Eventually, time ran out and Gamma Raptor won the fight on a 34-11 judges' decision.

Gamma Raptor vs Serial Box Killer

Gammavsserialbox sf01

Gamma Raptor pushes a flipped Serial Box Killer under the pulverizer.

This win put Gamma Raptor to the Round of 16, where it faced Serial Box Killer once again. In the match, Gamma Raptor flipped Serial Box Killer and pushed it underneath the pulverizer. Gamma Raptor won the fight by KO and advanced to the lightweight quarter-finals.

Gamma Raptor vs Mouser Super Mecha-Catbot

Catbotraptor

Gamma Raptor flips Mouser Mecha-Catbot.

Next up was Mouser Super Mecha-Catbot. Both robots drove at each other and Gamma Raptor took a small lift from Mouser. After Mouser was hitting Gamma Raptor with its tail at one point, Gamma Raptor got its lifting arm underneath Mouser and pushed it against the spikestrip. As Mouser got lifted by the piston, Gamma Raptor gets underneath Mouser, pushes it toward the rear of the BattleBox, bounces Mouser into a screw, and Mouser is flipped on its back. Gamma Raptor pushes the flipped Mouser under the pulverizer and Mouser was then counted out. When the buzzer rang, the pulverizer continued to hit Mouser. Gamma Raptor still won the fight by KO.

Gamma Raptor vs Wedge of Doom

Gamma Raptor advanced to the semi-finals, where it faced Wedge of Doom. Both robots were driving around the BattleBox and Gamma Raptor later pushes Wedge of Doom against the arena wall. Gamma Raptor drives over the killsaws a few times and Gamma Raptor gets underneath Wedge of Doom again, though Wedge of Doom slips away. Both robots were diving around the BattleBox and both robots couldn't lift each other. One of the lifting tusks of Gamma Raptor has broken loose and Wedge of Doom has lost power to two of its wheels. Gamma Raptor slams into Wedge of Doom a few times, angling Wedge of Doom towards the pulverizer. At that point, Wedge of Doom drives forward, right under the pulverizer. Wedge of Doom gets hit by the pulverizer and Gamma Raptor comes in. Gamma Raptor ended up getting hit by the pulverizer as well and one of Wedge of Doom's wheels came off before the time ran out. Gamma Raptor won the fight on a 28-17 judges' decision.

Gamma Raptor vs Dr. Inferno Jr.

DrInfernovsGammaRaptor sf01

Dr. Inferno Jr. pushes Gamma Raptor during the lightweight finals.

Gamma Raptor advanced to the lightweight finals, where it faced Dr. Inferno Jr. again. Early on, both robots struggled to gain an advantage. Gamma Raptor suddenly got caught on the killsaws and Gamma Raptor tried to get underneath Dr. Inferno Jr., but Dr. Inferno Jr. escapes. Gamma Raptor gets ready to make a quick run across the killsaw hole so it can get to Dr. Inferno Jr. before the killsaws pop up. Unfortunately, Gamma Raptor's lower claws get stuck in the killsaw hole. Gamma Raptor reverses to try to free itself, but the killsaws pop up and Gamma Raptor takes a shot from the killsaws. Both robots were pushing each other and Dr. Inferno Jr. gets pushed on the killsaws by Gamma Raptor. Both robots slammed into each other a couple times and with only ten seconds left, Gamma Raptor nearly flips Dr. Inferno Jr. twice, but fails each time before the time ran out. Dr. Inferno Jr. won the fight on a 32-13 judges' decision and Gamma Raptor became the lightweight runner-up of Season 3.0.

Lightweight Royal Rumble

Gamma Raptor also participated the Lightweight Royal Rumble at the end of the tournament. It first attacks Backlash alongside Dr. Inferno Jr., picking up Backlash and carrying it around. After being released Backlash gets back at Gamma Raptor. It then hits Ziggo hard, sending Ziggo into the wall. It then attacks Trilobot, then goes back at Backlash but flips itself over. Gamma Raptor self-rights and tackles Serial Box Killer, getting its lower prong stuck in the Ramrods. Gamma Raptor managed to brake free to continue fighting, taking a hit from Herr Gepoünden. Next it slams Dr. Inferno Jr. into the wall. It suddenly stopped moving near Bad Habit and in the end Ziggo was declared the winner.

Season 4.0[]

Gamma Raptor vs. The Big B

Gamma Raptor's only match in Season 4.0 was against The Big B. The Big B won the fight by KO at 1:34 and Gamma Raptor was eliminated from the tournament at a relatively early stage.

Lightweight Consolation Rumble

Gamma Raptor entered the Lightweight Consolation Rumble at the end of the tournament. Although it was one of many robots still moving towards the end, Gamma Raptor lost overall to Dr. Inferno Jr. and The Crusher.

Season 5.0[]

Gamma Raptor vs. RoboMisDirection

Gamma Raptor was allowed to skip the preliminary rounds of Season 5.0, where it eventually faced RoboMisDirection. Gamma Raptor won the fight on a 32-13 judges' decision and advanced to the Round of 16.

Gamma Raptor vs. Serial Box Killer

In the Round of 16, Gamma Raptor took on Serial Box Killer in a rematch from Season 3.0. Gamma Raptor won the fight by KO again and advanced to the quarter-finals.

Gamma Raptor vs. Hexy Jr.

Hexyjrvsgammaraptor sf02

Gamma Raptor gets flipped by Hexy Jr.

Gamma Raptor advanced to face Hexy Jr. in the quarter-finals. Hexy Jr. got an early flip as it maneuvered close and tossed Gamma Raptor into the air. It was landing upside down and for a second Team WhoopAss thought they might gain the advantage. Unfortunately, Gamma Raptor came down hard on the horn connected to its lifter, which apparently has a considerable amount of spring as it just bounced completely back on its wheels. Hexy Jr.'s air cylinder depressurized with a loud hiss just as Gamma Raptor bounced back onto its wheels, giving the illusion that Gamma Raptor had actually righted itself with compressed air. Hexy Jr. got in some flips and evaded Gamma Raptor's lifting arm fairly well, but it was apparently not enough for the judges. Gamma Raptor won the fight on a 27-18 judges' decision and advanced to the semi-finals, where it faced Dr. Inferno Jr. in a rematch.

Gamma Raptor vs. Dr. Inferno Jr.

DrInfernovsGammaRaptor 1 sf02

DrInfernovsGammaRaptor 2 sf02

Dr. Inferno Jr. pushes Gamma Raptor against the spikestrip.

Dr. Inferno Jr. drives off at an angle and meets Gamma Raptor in the middle of the BattleBox. Dr. Inferno Jr. bumps into the side of Gamma Raptor and Gamma Raptor starts going backwards. Gamma Raptor gets under the side skirt of Dr. Inferno Jr. and pushes it around the BattleBox. Dr. Inferno Jr. slips off before Gamma Raptor can push it against the arena wall. Both robots collide and Dr. Inferno Jr. gets underneath the rear of Gamma Raptor. Dr. Inferno Jr. starts pushing Gamma Raptor and takes it to the spikestrip. Both robots were around the pulverizer though neither robot gets hit from it. Gamma Raptor backs away from the wall, right into Dr. Inferno Jr. Dr. Inferno Jr. gets under Gamma Raptor and hits Gamma Raptor with its spinning triangle, then tries to push Gamma Raptor around, but the lower teeth on Gamma Raptor's lifting arm gets caught in the ramrod holes. Dr. Inferno Jr. gets under the side of Gamma Raptor and pushes it to the middle of the BattleBox. Gamma Raptor backs up and charges into Dr. Inferno Jr., but Dr. Inferno Jr. runs away and Gamma Raptor just misses. Dr. Inferno Jr. gets under the rear of Gamma Raptor, lifting Gamma Raptor's wheels off the ground, then pushes and Gamma Raptor goes bouncing along the BattleBox floor on its front. Gamma Raptor raises its arm, which gets it back in a more horizontal mode, but Dr. Inferno Jr.'s spinning triangle is making contact with Gamma Raptor's side armor and sparks were being produced. Dr. Inferno Jr. pushes Gamma Raptor against the arena wall, backs up and Gamma Raptor is back on the ground. Gamma Raptor starts pushing Dr. Inferno Jr. and got itself caught on the killsaws. This tossed Gamma Raptor into the air and it landed on its back. Gamma Raptor slowly self-rights and Dr. Inferno Jr. starts pushing Gamma Raptor again. Gamma Raptor flees to the other side of the BattleBox and charges into Dr. Inferno Jr. Gamma Raptor prepares to charge into Dr. Inferno Jr. again, but Dr. Inferno Jr. escapes and Gamma Raptor just spins around. Gamma Raptor gets under the front wedge of Dr. Inferno Jr. and starts to lift it. Dr. Inferno Jr. starts to tilt and Gamma Raptor pushes it against the arena wall. Gamma Raptor immediately gets under Dr. Inferno Jr. and pushes it against the arena wall again. Gamma Raptor has its lifting arm against Dr. Inferno Jr.'s body and the teeth on its body under Dr. Inferno Jr.'s front skirt and pushes Dr. Inferno Jr. 40 feet across the full length of the BattleBox and slams it against the arena wall once again. Dr, Inferno Jr. lands on its wheels as Gamma Raptor flips itself. Gamma Raptor attempts to self-right again, but drives itself against the spikestrip. Dr. Inferno Jr. turns around and pushes Gamma Raptor against the arena wall and starts to make sparks on Gamma Raptor's armor with its spinning triangle. Dr. Inferno Jr. backs off and Gamma Raptor is still stuck against the spikestrip. Dr. Inferno Jr. watches Gamma Raptor struggling against the spikestrip and with only 10 seconds left, Gamma Raptor was being counted out. Dr. Inferno Jr. won the fight by KO and Gamma Raptor was eliminated from the tournament again.
